In our Conversations classes, students learn through our published curriculum, Beginner Conversations by Motherly Notes, covering over 300 high-frequency phrases each semester. These are the expressions kids actually use in daily life — not outdated or irrelevant vocabulary.

We teach using our proprietary conversation methodology, designed around the principles of natural language acquisition. Instead of rote memorization, students absorb phrases through meaningful use, repetition in context, and real-life communication. Over time, speaking becomes second nature, allowing students to respond effortlessly and confidently in Mandarin.

Frequency?

We suggest buying the bundle and dropping into class at every chance you get to repeat, listen and practice on a daily basis as well as on weekends. Our bundles are the best value so look into a bundle option! 

Do I need to buy books?

We highly recommend purchasing the books so students can review and practice the most frequently used phrases at home. The books provide an excellent foundation and make it easier for families to reinforce learning between classes.

However, please note that our conversations classes are flexible and personalized, so we may cover material beyond the book or skip sections that aren’t relevant to the specific group. For example, we once had a class of entirely homeschooled students, so instead of reviewing traditional school vocabulary, we shifted to homeschool-related phrases that were far more useful and meaningful to them.

The books give students a strong base, but our discussions are always tailored to who’s in the room, ensuring every class feels practical, engaging, and relevant.
