CURRENT EVENTS Middle/Upper (7/27-8/16) Wed 4PM / 7PM PST

Our Current Events Program is designed to help middle to upper level students explore the world around them through real, meaningful topics. In a dynamic, discussion-based environment, students will build strong critical thinking skills, learn how to ask thoughtful questions, and express their ideas clearly in Chinese.

Whether your child is curious about global issues, wants to better understand how the world works, or is ready to develop confidence in sharing their opinions, this program provides the perfect space to grow. All sessions May - August will have different topics so feel free to register the entire summer!

What to Expect in Class

In August’s session, students will apply everything they have learned by exploring global issues and expressing their ideas with confidence. Using real-world topics such as education, technology use, and environmental responsibility, students will practice organizing their thoughts, giving reasons, and responding to others. Through structured discussions and presentations, students will develop strong communication skills and become more confident, thoughtful speakers.

Shared Reading

Teachers guide students through beautiful, bestselling children’s literature carefully selected from Asia. Our curriculum draws from a private library of over 20,000 books, making us true experts in children’s Mandarin literature.

Discussion & Vocabulary Exploration:

As stories unfold, students pause to unpack new terms, images, and ideas. They discuss meanings, connect concepts to their own experiences, and learn how native speakers express themselves.

Creative Language Use:

Students compose sentences, craft short responses, and participate in comprehension conversations that build confidence and fluency.

Daily Writing Practice:

We read and teach fully in Traditional Chinese, with full support for Simplified Chinese, especially when children write. All teachers are trained in both systems.

In our Foundations weekend classes, students learn both Simplified and Traditional in a structured approach.
